  • Death Duty Index Registers - Advice needed!

I've found an entry in the death duty index register that I want to find out more about.

It relates to a John S Pagett of Rothley who died in 1864.
The executor is Samuel Bown of Leicester.

    The area was Leicester.

How would I go about obtaining the relevant documents?

    Thanks

    Beth

Here's the entry on the Probate Index
    John Spooner Pagett
    Probate Date: 19 Dec 1864
    Death Date: 10 Oct 1864
    Death Place: Leicester, Leicestershire, England
    Registry: Leicester

You can order a copy of the Will for £5 from a Probate Registry - I find it works to write to a local one where they have access to them all but you could write to Leicester Sub Registry
    Crown Court Building
    90 Wellington Street
    Leicester Leicestershire
    England
    LE1 6HG

I use them and they are very helpful. You need to tell them the details as above and send a cheque.

Thank you so much Margaret... Who would I address the letter to and who would I make the cheque payable to?

I have no idea how John Spooner Pagett fits in the other half's tree but I have an inclination... Here is a post I wrote about him if you are interested.. http://bit.ly/f8xmtj

Just write to the Probate Registar and the cheque is payable to HM Courts Service.
Your article is very interesting. I live near Leicester and belong to the local Family History Society, you might like to contact them in case an of the members is able to help in your quest.

Thanks, I will take a look for the local Family History Society.

Leicester is a bit out of the way for me. I'll write the letter now.

Thank you ever so much for your help Margaret!
