Budget Savings in the City of London's Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery Department for 2011-12

In October 2010, a message went out from the Director of the Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery Department explaining that the Department would have to make savings of 5.9% as its contribution to the budget reductions required by the City of London Corporation. This was before the announcement of the Comprehensive Spending Review in November which has led to a further 10% of savings being required. As a result, the Department has to make savings of 15.9% in its budget for 2011-12.
    .
It is not yet clear what the full range of savings will be as the situation is constantly changing. However, it is likely that for London Metropolitan Archives this will mean closing on Saturdays and on an additional weekday, increasing charges, and some reduction in our conservation for access programme.

David Pearson, the Director of the Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery Department, would very much like to meet users to discuss the budget savings. He is planning to have two drop-in "Meet the Director" sessions at London Metropolitan Archives in March at which he will explain what we propose to do and why. Each session will last 2 hours, and you can drop-in at any time to talk informally to David over a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit.
