Following on from my thread below on New York Passenger lists, I have now spent the last day or so trying to piece together Samuels existence prior to his adventure to New York, with limited success. If Samuel arrived in New York in 1852, there should be two census counts for him. I have found him in the 1841 census living with the Rumble family in South ockendon, Essex (the Rumble family and Chiddicks family are connected via marriage). The majority of the chiddicks family lived in South Fambridge, South Ockendon, Ashingdon, Barking, all in Essex. I have previously searched parish registers in South ockendon, South fambridge, and ashingdon for all chiddicks references but have not found an entry to fit with Samuel being born in appx 1827. Lodgic says that he could be an early child of James Chiddicks who is in South Ockendon in 1841 with his wife. Note James is aged 33 and Eliza 20. Is Samuel from James first marriage.
Thats the background, but can anybody find a Samuel Chiddicks born about 1827 in the 1851 census as I cant find him. There are other Samuels but nothing that appears to fit.
