  • Herbert William Johnstone, born 1897, Oakham, Rutland

    Help, please.

I have been unable to trace a marriage for the above, which would probably have taken place in the Rutland/Leicestershire area.

I understand his wife's name to be Susie. Herbert was employed on the railways for most of his working life.

He was one of 10 children, all born in Oakham, Rutland.

Hopefully, some kind person will be able to trace the marriage.

Theres this one but the middle initial is wrong:-

Johnstone Herbert [A_] Hooley Shardlow 7b1161

Shardlow is not too far from Rutland.

Added: Whoops, sorry the year was 1921, March Qtr.

Had a quick look and can't see anything. When was it likely to have happened? If there were children then please give a date for their first born.

              I think this is likely to be it - Herbert W Johnstone to Susan Maycock - Oct-Dec 1920 - Belper Derbyshire - 7b 1602.
              Maybe she came from there?

They seem to have moved around a bit if the 3 possible children are all theirs. 1921 - 1927 and 1933, all Leicestershire/Lincolnshire/Rutland but Melton Mowbray - Grantham and Billesdon. I can PM you the names born in a pub if you haven't got Ancestry or similar?

Looks like a few children born to the other two Johnstone children. Please PM (private message) me born in a pub if you would like any further details as these people could all still be alive. No deaths found for the other two and haven't looked for what may have happened to the children yet. Can search for you if you are interested though.
p.s. I should have said welcome to FTF and to send a private message to me - click on my name and then on private message.
