  • Military records help please

I'm trying to help a friend and thought it would be as easy as finding my great uncle's details....erm NO!

Can anyone please help? Looking for any kind of war records at all.

    Alec William Cumberland born 20.09.16
    Ruddington, Nottingham.

He was in the Royal Armoured Corps - probably from about 1943, after serving in the police force.

I have searched - to the best of my ability - on Ancestry and TNA - but drawn a blank :(

I'm no expert in this Mandy but aren't the more recent WW11 records still with the MOD?

I think all Army Records after approx 1922 are still with the regiments.

Was your G Uncle in the army in WW1 as they are the ones that are on Ancestry?

Some one will know the dates better than me but I know it's early 1920's

He wouldn't be in WW1 Lin. He was only born in 1916. I know they used to say half the men were only babes in arms but I don't think they meant it literally :D

Get military records of service for the Royal Navy (including Royal Marines), British Army and Royal Air Force - who can apply, how long it takes, cost, how to apply.

I think this is what I was looking for - was it??

His records will still be with the MOD. Next of kin can apply for them and it costs £30. There's a long wait!

Details of how to apply are here
