  • Wills ordering in person

I had found a will from 1891 and had a look on the list on the HM Courts service at York of the local offices where the wills were available, so off I went on Wedfnesday to Liverpool QE2 Court for 3Xgt grandmother will as I was hoping for information on my rellies born India, her grandchildren for whom I have very little knowledge of as their parents had died while they were just babies.

The assistant was very helpful but told me that I could not get the will from them as they only do them from 1923 onwards, So I filled in the form with the information that I had and was told it would take several weeks to come from York, so imagine my surprise on Saturday morning when the will dropped through my letter box, yes from Liverpool QE2 Court not from York.

I have found out from the will that she left the entire sum of £102 8s.11p to my grandfather and a brother who were both still in schools in India and the schools were named in the will, so I have written an e mail to the India list tonight for information of those two schools but my interpretation of what schools they were as the will writing was difficult to read.

So the Moral of this tale is Why wait weeks for your will to arrive from York when you can go to your local Court http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm scroll down to the bottom for the list.
