Hello,
If anyone has any thoughts on this, they would be most gratefully received.
Florence Georgina Gordon Kerr, my great great grandmother, was born in India on the 11th January 1878.
Her birth certificate says her parents were Thomas & Olivia Kerr and Thomas was a Color Srgt in the 1/14th Regiment.
They had three other daughters (all born India) -
Edith Elizabeth in 1872
Alice Sophia in 1874
Margaret Louisa in 1877
At the time of the 1881 census, the family are living in Paisley, Scotland.
Olivia died in Paisley on January 21st 1882 age 30, so born c1852.
The death certificate gives these details:
Name - Olivia Newbury Kerr
Father - James Janaway / January, Barracks Srgt. (dec)
Mother - Sophia Ann Janaway / January formerly Abbott
I have been able to find what I think is Olivia's birth certificate -
Oliva Melvina Newbury January
Born 21 August 1851 Kingstown (this is St Vincent, West Indies)
Parents - James and Sophia January.
Occupation of James - Private.
I have been unable to find anything else to help with this family. However, I have now come across this on the FamilySearch Beta site:
Marriage details of Olivia Meskell:
birth:1852
parents:Henry Shannon
spouse:Thomas Kerr
marriage:20 May 1871 — Cawnpore, Bengal, India
record title:India Marriages, 1792-1948
groom's name:Thomas Kerr
groom's birth date:1840
groom's age:31
bride's name:Olivia Meskell
bride's birth date:1852
bride's age:19
marriage date:20 May 1871

groom's father's name:Thomas Kerr
bride's father's name:Henry Shannon
indexing project (batch) number:M75022-4
system origin:India-EASysource film number:499042
It just seems to closely linked to not be something to do with it, but her Father's name is wrong. Olivia wasn't a common name at the time.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom
