  • Marriage lookup - Gloucestershire

    Hi,
Is anyone able to lookup Marriage details in Barton Regis, Gloucestershire?
In the 4th quarter of 1893, an Alice Cooper married a Samuel Stamp.
I was wondering what Alice's mother's name was?
Plus any other available information of this marriage.
    Thanks,
    Greg.

Barton Regis was a big registration district covering many parishes in Bristol, listed on the Genuki website. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/d...n%20regis.html

You probably will need to narrow down the area to particular parishes and then the records are likely to be held in Bristol rather than Gloucestershire archives. In this instance it would probably be much easier to order the certificate to find the information that you are after.

Might be useful to add this link to your bookmarks/favourites: http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/

Nothing for barton Regis there yet, but it does cover Gloucestershire.

The Bristol and Avon family history society have a map showing which parishes belong to the Bristol diocese and whose records are therefore held in Bristol Records Office.http://www.bafhs.org.uk/parishes/parishavon.htm . At a quick glance it does look like this applies to the 15 civil parishes within the Barton Regis registration district. This area has been part of various counties over the years and more recently has been known as South Gloucestershire, I think. As it is now part of Bristol I don't think that the Gloucesterhire BMD project are intending to cover this area, although I may be wrong.
