Help with downloaded Ancestry tree

I have downloaded my tree from Ancestry to Family Tree Maker 2005, people who show as 'living' on my internet tree are now showing as 'living' on my private tree.
I have gone into Privatise in file, and it states that any changes I make will not be saved.
Is there anything I can do to keep the names, dob, etc on my private tree, because if I change it, it just goes back to 'living' after I've closed and reopened my tree?
