Marriage 18 Oct 1816 - Thatcham, Berkshire, England

      - but can't see a Benjamin & Anna in 1841

Also this marriage - again from FamilySearchREcord

        Daniel Pearce Bailey/ Maria Earles
Marriage 06 Aug 1838 - Reading, Berkshire, England

Is this the son of Daniel Bailey b c1791, a possible second marriage for Daniel b c1791 - or a completely different family?

Sorry I missed your question yes it is the son of the Daniel born in1971 I had not thought of a second marriage . I think both Daniels have the middle name on Pearce,I know that the one that marriad Maria Earles has there are 2 Daniel Pearce Bailey's father and son I thnk.

I am now thinking that Daniel may have married twice. Do you think that you could find the death of Anna Meriah Bailey nee Brunsdon.her death would have to be after 1827 when her last child William was born. But she could have dead before or after that date as I am not sure if William was Anna's or not. To morrow I am going to but all the paper work out on the flood to see where it all leads. Up the garden path by the looks of it

                Thank you
                Sheila

Elaine, have you seen this thread which is connected.

Sheila, I did see Anna Maria later on in the census as Hannah M. Bailey, she was a widow. I will look for the reference.

                  Yep, 1851, here we are HO107 Piece 1685 Folio 90 Page 6

                  Cold Ash
Hannah M. Bailey, widow, 57, cordwainer, Bucklebury
Henry Bailey, son, widower, 28, ditto, Thatcham
                  Henry Crook, grandson, 6, Thatcham

                    And here is Daniel's death
Q3 1844 Daniel Pearce BAILEY Newbury Vol 6 page 130

So that seems to confirm we have the right family. Now we need to confirm the baptism and parents of Daniel senior.

Here are the burials for Daniel sr and Hannah Maria, both at St Mary's, Thatcham (from Berks Burial Index)

Daniel Pearce BAILEY 29 Sep 1844 aged 51
Hannah Maria BAILEY (Cold Ash) 5 Jun 1853 aged 59

So the baptism Sheila already found looks favourite:

                    Name Daniel Bailey
                    Baptism/Christening Date 01 Dec 1793
                    Baptism/Christening Place Thatcham, Berkshire, England
                    Father's Name Wm. Bailey
                    Mother's Name Jane Bailey

There is also this one though, which is feasible as Sulhamstead is only a few miles away:

                    Name Daniel Bailey
                    Baptism/Christening Date 25 Mar 1792
                    Baptism/Christening Place SULHAMSTEAD BANISTER,BERKSHIRE,ENGLAND
                    Father's Name Thomas Bailey
                    Mother's Name Elizabeth

I can't see any likely-looking burials for William or Jane Bailey.

There's a possibility for Jane in the Bartholomew St Almshouses in Newbury, 1841

                      HO107; Piece 33; Book 5; Folio 4; Page 3
Jane Bailey 75 born in Berks

This burial at St Nicolas Newbury could be her:
BAILEY Jane 21 Feb 1846 (blank) yrs

The parish registers for St Nicolas Newbury are not on Family Search/IGI so the marriage of William & Jane could have been there, but there are of course other parishes not covered.

OK, they could still turn out to be the couple that married at Sparsholt, but I think we shouldn't assume too much at this stage. The name of Pearce could be a valuable clue and may turn up somewhere.
