  • Kidderminster archives help

    Hello all

If a marriage took place in Kidderminster in 1949 (Information on freebmd) where could I find the info?
Would it be held in the archives (If so where can I get in touch with them?) or would I have to purchase the certificate?
I only ask as I am helping a friend with his granddads marriage and Im not sure this is the right guy or not.

    Many thanks

      Danny,
Worcester History Centre holds parish records and would be your best bet. Do you have a date for the marriage or just a year?

I'm not sure how many churches were in Kidderminster in 1949, that's if the wedding was in Church, but I would imaging a fair few.

I should be able to go and take a look for info in the centre for you but not until after next weekend, 27th onwards. If you want to PM me names and more details re date if possible feel free.

Kidderminster has 3 main churches (St Marys & All Saints , St Georges and St Johns plus 1 catholic St Ambrose.
Kidderminster district also covers the outlying areas ie Stourport, Bewdley, Arley, Wolverley, Cookley etc each with at least one church each -
The archives at Kidderminster library only go up to the 1920's I think with each Church separately on fiche but could check them out next week if you can wait till Saturday.

                Hiya Jayne

If that's not to much trouble then I would love to see if they have the marriage for them there. Daphne has kindly offered to help also but I would be very grateful to you if its not to much of an inconvenience.

                Thank you very much.

For a marriage in 1949, the obvious place is the register office (or easier, buying the certificate from the GRO). The registrar will have a separate set of registers for each church, plus there are the register office (plus registrar attended) marriage registers. Some churches may well still hold marriage registers from that long ago, if they haven't yet been filled. I think they are supposed to send completed registers to the County Archives.

                      Have PM'd you.

UJ - I did think it would be a register office but it was his first marriage and his second marriage was in a register office in Islington.
