I wonder if some K S can help me. For the past 3 years I have been trying to trace a part of my family that emigrated to Australia in the early 1900's from Woolwich, London. I have looked at shipping lists but without full names and dates, which I do not have, I have had no luck whatsoever. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what I can try next? Unfortunately everyone that could have helped with names etc have long gone now.

Hi - That's about all I know, I have researched as much as I can the other family members who were in Woolwich, but it's not apparent which members went, I could really do with a sneak preview of the 1921 census - but I expect I'm not the only one!

Well, I am suspecting that it was Thomas, or George and family - they were already in Australia by 1927 as my grandfather was in the merchant navy and used to visit them when he docked there. The only other information that I have is that they worked in or owned (not sure) a pineapple canning factory in Australia - Its not much to go on, I know.

Some criticism of the activities of the Committee of Direction of Fruit Marketing was indulged in last week, when the first: conference of fruit growers held ...
Found a possible useful clue ... just searching for marshall pineapple brought up thousands of hits as there seems to be a football team called Pineapple Rovers!!Caroline

With Worldwide Ancestry having the directories and now the BMD lists also with the newspapers searchable it is much easier now.
We have got a page on Australia in the Reference Library which also links to the Guide in our magazine: http://www.familytreeforum.com/conte.../434-AustraliaCaroline

Lots of googling seems to point to Brisbane for pineapple canning. Might not help finding the Marshals, but it was interesting reading anyway!!

I think its a pretty safe bet that they would have lived in Queensland(north Australia) as thats pretty much the only place they grow pineapples, I wouldnt imagine that the canery would be out of the state. Have you tried to find a death cert on the Queensland BDM website. Most of the Australian certificates have good info on them (well the ones that I have had to get anyway) I just had a quick look for Thomas Marshall death certs from 1900-1964 and theres 20 hits most of them have parents names and some say born in england. If you have the parents names than it shouldnt be to hard to cross reference for the thomas or george your looking for.
The BDM website, https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSear...nu=IndexSearch
This link may help too, its Queensland's archives with shipping list from 1849-1912

If I can help anymore just give me a holla,
James
