  • Australian death or marriage

I am trying to find out what happened to Mary H Cumner born in 1857 in New South Wales, Australia.( Broughton St Glebe, I believe as this is where her brother was born two years later). Parents Ebenezer and Emma Lee.
Ebenezer died 1859 and the mother, Emma returned to england with her son Frederick, born 1859, the following year.
No mention of Mary H on subsequent UK census. Presumed died in Oz.

My membership of Ancestry doesn't include access to Aussie records so a lookup or any other info would be appreciated.

Found her - its indexed as CUMMER

2054/1860 CUMMER MARY H (father) EBENEZER (mother) EMMA (reg place) GLEBE

NSW BMD Indexes are free online.

This is how Ebenezer died - the railways were a dangerous place

Sydney Morning Herald 14 Oct 1859

FATAL ACCIDENT ON THE PYRMONT BRANCH RAILWAY.-A shocking accident occurred yersterday morning, about 11 a m , by which a man named Ebenezer Cumnor, aged 26, lost his life. The dceceased it appears was a labourer employed on the line, and bore the reputation of being a quiet well-behaved man. He had been engaged in breaking ballast, and was in the act of jumping upon a passing train of trucks when the heap of stuff upon which he was standing gave way, and the poor fellow was precipitated beneath the vehicles. We need scarcely add that he was terribly mutilated, or that death ensued almost instantaneously, The body was conveyed without delay to the dead house of the Benevelent Asylum, and at a later period of the evening an inquest was instituted before the city coroner. The deceased has left a widow and two children.

Mary; By trying differrent years on NSW BMD was able to get date of death as 1860.
Ebenezer; Wow. What a terrible way to go. I already had some details of the accident from his death certificate but what you found is so much more detailed.
          Many thanks
