  • 1871 census - entry in disabilities column - help please?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this entry in the disabilities column on the 1871 census please?

It looked to me like 'Pdist' and a tick. I've googled that with no success. The entry was in respect of a 4 month old boy in case that helps.

    Hi Cherie
It looks like Idiot to me, but a 4 month old child? I suppose he could have been a Downs syndrome baby, which would have been recognisable and I suppose in those days without the knowledge we have today would have been treated as an "idiot".

Cherie I think it says Idiot. (I may be wrong) :(

Maybe the baby had brain damage.

They weren't very good with words in those days.:(
