Probate Question

For a rellie who died in 1865, in the Probate Calendar it states that the effects are under £3000. Would this mean that the estate would be between £2000 - £3000, or maybe £2500 - £3000, or could it just mean anything up to £3000?

I would think it means anything up to £3000.

I'd guess that there was a £3000 threshold for estate duty or something, which would make it significant.

Thanks for your answers. I think it must have been a reasonable sum as his widow went off and started a school for young girls. I think I need to start a list of "Wills that I want"
