  • Some help with a census please

I've got a few questions about this one...looking at Jno Fogg and Mary Ann in the same household...

    • Is Jno John? If so, why was it written like this - if not, what is it?!
    • Mary Ann has no surname and the biggest load of gobbledy gook written in her details. Jno is suggested as adopted child and born Ashbourne same as Mary Ann - do we think she could be a Fogg and he is hers?
    • The transcription of Mary Ann's condition - Dang Gd Crooby!!! Any ideas?

    Thanks all
    Just Mandy

I quite like Dang Gd Crooby ... but I think it says Daughter (written in an abbreviated form) of Crosby
    - which seems a bit odd given her age and his age!

Jno was an accepted abbreviated version of John. The condition of adopted child is his relationship to the head of household, George Crosby.

No surname for Mary Ann - given the text in the condition column you would presume it is Crosby.

Interestingly Elaine - I have come across this in 1861:

This is the only Mary Ann Fogg I have ever come across - and I suspect this could be the same person - what do you think? And can you read her occupation on the 1871?

George Crosby marries Mary Ann Fogg 1864 in Chesterfield.

                      Is that any help.

                        Thanks Lin

I have no idea where she came from though or which branch of Foggs she belongs to - it's all getting confusing and I'm getting in a real muddle!

Is it John Fogg you are looking for? He was born Mar 1858 Ashbourne.

Thanks Lin - looks like he was a nurse child in 1861 maybe.

I'm not really sure WHAT I'm looking for anymore! I'm kind of trying to track down all known Foggs in the Ashbourne area and either tie them in to MY tree, another tree I'm not connected to - or the miscellaneous pile. It's this pile that I HOPE will help me to connect the two together somehow...I've kind of lost my way!

That's how I got drawn into helping with a one name study.

I see there is already a registered one for FOGG.
