  • 1861 & 1871 look up Please.

Hi I was wondering if someone could find David Oates on the 1861 and 1871 census . On the marriage certificate of his daughter Martina Oates in 1864 he was alive and was a domestic servant, butler . I am trying to find his death, and this is the best place to start, I think. On 1 census the name was transcribed as Cates.
    Thank you

Do you have any more information about Martina or her parents, for example place and year of birth?

David was born in Drougheda (?) Ireland in c 1801 and so was his wife Maria Ireland c1808 . Martine was born in 1896 and lived in Chelsea, as did Maria . Sorry I did not answer before but it is School Run here

Sorry, when was Martina born - you said 1896 which is presumably not right as she married in 1864!

The 1851 census for Maria Oates shows she was born in D'rougheda, Ireland c1807. It also shows her as being widowed.

Do you need the full information from the 1851 or do you already have it?

Just because it doesn't say he was deceased, doesn't necessarily mean he was alive!

1871 census - still in Chelsea

                Household transcription:
                Maria Oates 63 - head - widow
Perry Oates 28 - daughter (possibly Terry ??)
Emily Bailey 25 - daughter (presume this is Martina Emily)
                William Bailey 6 - grandson
                Charlotte Tosh 81 - lodger

I wonder if this is David's death registration, bearing in mind that Maria is shown as a widow on the 1851 census.

Thank you , I always thought that he would have to be there as he was listed. The " in the presence of " if badly smudged but you can see" esa Oates" and the other person's name ended" agh" . So that's no help'
