  • "Victorian Logs" by E. W. Gadd

I realise this is an incredibly long shot but is there anyone who has access to the book "Victorian Logs" by E. W. Gadd? It includes information from the log books of the Northam Day Schools of Southampton. If there does happen to be anyone, I'd be much interested in references to Mr. George James - a pupil teacher and temporary headmaster, who taught there in the 1860's. Apparently there are a few references within the book.

I've tried looking for a digital copy on Google Books but to no avail.

Have you tried asking your local library service? If it's anywhere in the international system, they may be able to borrow it from another library for you. Hertfordshire Library Service got a copy of a microfilm from Canada for me.

I have this book out on loan from the library at the mo. What info are you after? Is it just every mention of George James?

Many thanks to all for their replies here.

Terri, thank you for posting. I would be very grateful indeed for any extracts in relation to George James and, if possible, his future wife, Mary Glover. Both George and Mary took apprenticeships there as pupil teachers. In there 'Southern Life' link, as posted above by Julie, the index shows mentions to both of these people.

I'd be very thankful for any help you could offer.

              Kind regards,
              moulie

No problem, just give me a day or two to work through the book. If you want to PM me your address I could even photo copy the pages and send to you.
