I am going to have to turn to the good members of this forum for help with my 4x great grandmother, this has had me stumped for a long while now.
She was born Elizabeth Cock 1803 to Henry and Elizabeth/Betty M Cock in Colne, Lancashire. She married 1819 Burnley Lancashire to Robert Whittam. They had their first two children in Burnley, moved back to Colne, and then about 1838 moved to Bradford.
This is them on the 1841 Census:
1841 Census: Back of Georges Street, Bradford East End, Bradford, Yorks
1. Robert Whittam 40, Labourer, not born in county
2. Elizabeth Whittam 35, not born in county
3. Mary Whittam 15,not born in county
4. Thomas Whittam 10, not born in county
5. James Whittam 9, not born in county
6. Henry Whittam 8, not born in county
7. John Whittam 6, not born in county
8. Isaac Whittam 3, not born in county
Elizabeth is then widowed, Robert dying in Bradford 1842. She has a son Robert Claire/Clare whose birth was registered 1847 Bradford. But I cannot find a remarriage for her, and also she is not under the surname Claire/Clare herself in 1851
1851 Census: 67 Georges Street, Bradford East End, Bradford, Yorks
1. Elizabeth Tipple 47, head, widow, Colne, Lancs
2. Isaac Whittam son, 14, pieces (worsted) Colne, Lancs
3. Susannah Whittam, dau, 9, pieces (worsted) Colne, Lancs
4. Robert Clair, son, 4, Bradford, Yorks
5. Jane Cock, niece, un, 13, pieces (worsted), unknown
6. Elizabeth M Cock, mother, widow, 64, Ireland
Most sites have transcribed it as 'Tipple', but I'm not 100% sure:
Cany anyone help identify just what the name is, and find either of the two remarriages if they exist?
