looking at Elizabeths census there is a marriage on the same site 1885 of John Anderson to Mary A Stones - Manchester reg office / Register attended ...as Salford is predominately Catholic it may be worthwhile you having a look...only a possible.....allan

I was just thinking that Mary seems very young to have been Thomas's mother (only 15 if the ages in 1901 are right). However, I think this must be the right family in 1891, in which case she was presumably John's second wife:

Stokesley's near Cleveland in Yorkshire, but nowhere near Huddersfield, so I think I must have the wrong family in 1891, especially as Thomas's age is 4 years out.

Yes, found him in 1881, living with his parents T Anderson and Bridget Anderson, in Salford:
