I have a lot of Riddles in my family a few ended up in this area of Wales but they originated from Somerset. I think they went across the border for the mining as both Somerset and South Wales are mining areas.

So, it might be worth looking there for her parents and other family members.

Perhaps some kind person will lookup the family in 1871, 1861 etc ... who knows, maybe you'll find out who William's parents were - my Ancestry subs has run out so unable to find any info for you.

I've had a quick look for Wm Kedward and Esther Ann's marriage, but not found it yet ... hoping 1871 census will shed some light on it - did wonder if Esther's maiden name was Beavan ????

And a thought about occupations: fire man is more likely to be a man looking after the boiler of a steam engine than a man putting out fires.
