  • Irish BMD certificates - online ordering now available

Perhaps this is old news, but in googling for some information to answer a query about Irish BMDs, I have just discovered that there is now an online service for ordering Irish certificates.
    Here's the link: http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/find_...ertificates_ie

Dates covered by the online ordering service:
Births registered in the Republic of Ireland from 1922 - present.
Births registered in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from January 1864- December 1921.
Marriages registered in the Republic of Ireland from 1922-present.
Marriages registered in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from January 1920- December 1921.
Deaths registered in the Republic of Ireland from 1924 - present

Birth Certificate for adopted children from 1931 - present
Marriage Certificate from 1845 for non-Roman Catholic marriages and all marriages from 1864.
Civil Partnership Certificate from 2005 - present
Death Certificate from 1864 - present. (District or full address of death must be supplied.)

Thank you, Sarah, that I did not know.

I would dearly love to have death certificates for my great-great-grandparents but their deaths were not registered! I have the dates from a burial register from Galway but there is definitely no registration, the local registrar checked - very unusual, I was told!

Just had a look and if I've found the right info.. it states: Each certificate costs €8, with a fee of €2 for searching. An additional certificate for the same record costs €8. There is an additional fee of €1 for postage within the Republic of Ireland and United Kingdom and €2 for postage elsewhere.

Your Credit/Debit card will be debited on the day of purchase by the Civil Registration Service unless otherwise stated.

If you order Certificates from either Southern Or Northern Ireland GRO you can have photo copies of the exact same entries for much less than that...and they don't charge for postage!

http://www.groireland.ie/ for Southern Ireland -has the online ordering system which takes you to http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/find_...ertificates_ie

but still has application forms for ordering by post.

Note 1 If the record you have requested cannot be found, a search fee of €4.00 will be charged.

Note 2 Photocopies of entries in the registers are also available at a cost of €6.00, (additional copies -€4.00). These contain exactly the same information as a Certificate but are only of use for research purposes.

I've got some to order but I will be getting mine by post as it's cheaper!

Yes, of course it is also possible to order by post or by fax. Unfortunately it does not appear to be possible to order photocopies online at this time, only certificates.
However, for those of us who live in countries that do not use cheques, it is nice to know that it is now also possible to order certificates using a secure online payment system instead of having to risk sending credit card details by post or fax.
