Has anyone got a an Apple I-pod (not a phone). What do you think of it? I presume that you need an Applemac computer for downloading any information that you put on it. I hope to get a chance to look at one on Friday.

All Ipods are Apple, you just use the ITunes software to add albums/tracks. It's on our PC which is Windows XP.

Quite correct - I have an ipod and use it for the Genealogy podcasts (there are quite a few of them including the National Archives). I am about to spend three days on a train so I shall be quite unsocial looking like a "tweeny" with those earplugs in - the only way to cross the Nullabor!
There is no absolute truth - and no final answer.

No need to have a Mac to use an iPod. As Velma says, they work with PCs as well. Either way, you would have to install the iTunes software.

If you look here it says what is required and it has a list for Mac requirements and a list for PC requirements. So I'd say it connects to either type of computer.

                    Velma,

Many thanks, you do look after us well. I did infact see one today and now understand what it is and have an idea of how it works. 'Notice I said have an idea of how it works.'
While on holiday I was only able to listen the radio and it was the media jargon that suggested that Apple was a close shop and that it was unlikely to be compatible with other products. This is not the case.

Thank you all for your replies.
