                Rachel,

Keep watching this space as I am really warming up towards an Apple. My husband is sick of me talking about them and always tripping over a Mac magazine. Only delay is that at this moment in time my Windows PC is not totally clapped out. (only me).

Have you had a play with them at an Apple Store and/or thought about a refurbished one ?
The Gadget man on the radio reckons refurbished ones are just as good and have the same guarantee/backup etc as new ones.

We went over to macs about two or three years ago. My husband wanted to because he used them at work and PCs at home and he said that the Macs were much better. I was a bit unsure as I had never used a mac. Now I use a mac at home and a pc at work and I am much happier using the mac. Windows drives me round the bend.

If she goes to Apple > Support and types in 'Logic Studio and DVD Player + conflict' there should be a suitable answer.

She knows thanks - just making a point that Macs are nearly as likely to cause problems ... incidentally, it depends what you want to do on the machines doesn't it, as to what sort you need!!

                              They are certainly very pretty.

I agree Caroline.. for the average user who just wants email and web (with maybe a bit of photo archival and a family history app) why would you spend £800 on a mac when a £350 acer will give you the same functionality ?? it's the same argument as why would anyone lash out money on MS Office when they can get similar functionality for free with OpenOffice...

No make/brand is without it's faults (and thats before i start on with virii and malware)

Well I just like to give things a bit of a stir now and again

I have absolutely no knowledge of non-Macs and don't know anyone in real life who has one, so I can't even have a go

                                    butting out, disgracefully :D
