  • Help needed to Date a Uniform WW1 or WW2

    Hi,

Can anyone help to date this Uniform please ? Is it WW1 or WW2 & it would help to identify the person if I knew what the uniform was - Army I assume, but can anyone give any further info on this ?

Sorry, it's a bit grainy, it was emailed to me & the quality is poor.

    Many thanks Wallaby

    Not sure who he is.jpg
    We should never forget them,
Because we would not be here today, but for them.
We should be proud, reflect, respect and always remember them.
    Because we all have them…
    Them… were our Ancestors.

Yes, I thought WW1... interesting because the person my cousin thinks it is, was born in 1905, so would he be old enough to have been in WW1 ?

Is there some instructions to upload photos from Photobucket on FTF ? I've seen them once, but forget where

In 1918 he would have been 13 years old... are they sure it's the correct person??

The Royal Artillery wore the 5 pouch bandolier and white lanyard.

Thanks Velma. I'm hoping he's not the person they think he is, because if he's not - then he could only be the missing & mysterious Abraham from my father's family- long story if you've not followed my Hospital Records thread.

Thanks I'll try & get my head around how to upload it using photobucket. i usually do it from my laptop. Not very tech minded.

difficult to say exactly but he definitely has a white lanyard on his left shoulder and some sort of bandolier across his chest.

Help, I've followed the instructions on how to upload a photo from Photobucket & I've pasted the IMG code onto a post on this thread, but it's not showing up! Yet when I tried to do in again, I got a message telling me I'd duplicated the post. ?

There should be a photo from photobucket showing here ?

                          Yahaaaar! It's arrived!

PS I've found away of improving it! Is this any clearer to see the uniform ?

Have you tried finding his service record on Ancestry?

I'm not sure who he is Velma. I have one last brother of my father's to find. We suspect he's a stepbrother & he's on the 1911 census as Abraham Freedman but nothing is known about this brother & I've found no records for him anywhere, So I suspect he changed his name, God knows what to tho!

I've edited that post which has his picture & improved the picture. Maybe the uniform is more identifiable to Bob now ?

Bob, where are you :-) Can you i.d. the uniform any better now ?

Isn't this more likely to be Isaac, or one of the other brothers, than Abraham?

I can't add any more about the uniform except that the soft cap came in about 1916 so it was taken in the latter half of WW1.

Following Velma's comment I would guess he would have been about 9-11 years old in the 1911 census.

Hi OC, I don't think he looks much like Isaac tho. Isaac was very dark, this young man looks fair, which makes me think he's the curly-headed boy on the photo. Isaac was born in 1900, so might just scare thru as far as age, but he had MS, so I assumed he didn't go to war, altho we don't know when his MS started.
