  • Help with South African Records

Hi all, I have a litle query, I have found one of my relations emigrated to South Africa but I don't have a clue where to start.

    The details I have are:

Hurbert Frederick Neil, Born 18th August 1909 Finchley / New Southgate London, Died October 1958 Kimberly South Africa.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding his emigration details on-line, and whether he married or not. I would also be interested in finding out more about him in general. All but one of his siblings are now deceased as far as I can work out, I haven't spoken to the only surviving sister for years, but am aware that she and her brother were not close..

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Life's a journey not a destination.

Currently researching: Makey (Kent), Heath & Neil (London & Devon), Pegg (Norfolk & Suffolk), Gulliford (Cornwall).... Still busy busy!

There are three trees on Ancestry, one public and two private, which include Hubert Frederick Neil. The public tree gives the name of his spouse in the index, although when you view the tree it is not available (says living person). Might be worthwhile making contact with the tree owners.

There is an entry on the Findmypast website on their passenger lists for a H.F. Neil (b1906) travelling to Durban South Africa in 1929.

Not sure if you subscribe to FMP but if not access is free tomorrow from 09.00hrs until 09.00hrs Monday morning (to coincide with England playing in the World Cup!) - but you must register with the site before midight tonight.

Many thanks for your help Elaine, I will try and get onto FMP tonight, and will contact the tree owners to see what else I can find out.
