County family history groups & members' maiden names.

I'm considering joining the Sussex one as I have one quarter of my tree there and OH has just about all of his. They want to know my maiden name though do other county groups do this or is it just Sussex?

I don't see why I should tell them and anyway my father's ancestors are firmly based in Lancs & Lincs.

I belong to the Bedfordshire FHS - they have never specifically asked for my maiden name! As it happens ALL my dad's family are from Bedfordshire so the name is there in the list of my interests somewhere. They could work it out because I wrote an article for the magazine about my great grandfather.

Obviously the BFHS like you to submit a list of the names in your family from the county. BUT they don't insist - I could still be a member without submitting any of my research interests (although it might be a bit pointless!)

Just tell them you prefer not to give it as its not relevant to the county. Surely they'll still want your money!
