  • Can you find George in Canada please?

One of my maternal grandfather's cousins was meant to have gone to Canada, however the one it was supposed to have been appears to have stayed in the UK, leaving one unaccounted for, which I guess must be him! :D

His name was George Roe Moore and he was born in 1877 in Oxfordshire. His parents came from Sussex, and they were to be found living in Langney, Eastbourne, as market gardeners, on the 1881-1911 census returns.

George is on every one until 1901 and not on the 1911.

During my free 90 mins on FMP last night I found lots of George Moores sailing to Canada during 1901-1911, but couldn't pinpoint him.

I was hoping that someone could find him on a Canadian census return please.

    Many thanks

Are you sure of the year of birth?
On the 1901 census I can see a George R Moore, born 27 Oct 1878 England - occ Farm labourer - year of immigration to Canada 1900 - living with Stote family in Stanbridge, Missisquoi, Quebec

I have a date of birth as 9th Sept 1877 - can't remember where I got that from (slapped wrist!)... although this is confirmed by FreeBMD which has a birth of a George Roe Moore in Dec qtr 1877 in Abingdon district.

He was definitely in England in 1901 as he's on the census http://search.ancestry.co.uk/browse/...&ln=Moore&st=g

Any luck finding him on census returns?

Can't see him on the census at the moment. Will have another look later for you unless someone finds him in the meantime.
              Back to the gardening! :D

I have had a good look through the passenger lists on Ancestry but can't see him. Canada seems to have a huge population of George Moores!

Ancestry has a George R Moore in the Canada/US Border Crossings, but I don't have a worldwide sub to check it out.

The border crossing is dated 24 Sep 1916 so we need a crossing from England between June 1913 and 1916!

                                      Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935

                                      George Moore born c1877
Date of Arrival: 18 Jun 1913
                                      Vessel: Megantic
                                      Port of Arrival - Quebec
Port of Departure - Liverpool, England

When you look at image name is definitely Geo Roe Moore - occupation given as gardener.

Also travelling with him Hannah M Moore, aged 39

With Elaine's info I've got him on the FMP passenger lists, transcribed as Mr G R Moors (the image isn't very clear, but looks like Moore). There doesn't appear to be any extra info. He is a gardener aged 36, Mrs H M Moors is a housewife aged 39. They sailed from Liverpool on 10th June.
