having had another look at worldwide on Ancestry, there IS a Mary Nichols travelling to Aus with her 2 sons, Cyril and Walter. Cyril aged 6 and walter aged 8, What it doesnt state is the year in which they travelled.

        details:

        name: Cyril Nichols
        est birth Year: 1875
        age 6
arrival date 12 June 1881 (which might account for not finding him on the 1881 uk cens)
        arrival port: Melbourne, Australia
        dep port: London
        ships name: John Elder
        nationality: English

it doesnt state Marys marital condiditon, but she did travel alone with the boys.

there is a Cyril Nichols in London on the 1901 Cens, birth 1875 New Zealand. so this could be one and the same person. esp as he may not realise that he was English with going to Aus when he was very small.

this is the ref for 1901:

        Class: RG13; Piece: 99; Folio: 45; Page: 14.

or if you have an ancestry sub click the link below

          HI

1881 there is a Cyril showing in the household of these 2 single sisters

Amelia B Broach bn 1838 Tasmania
Louisa H Broach bn 1839 Tasmania
Harry Nichols bn 1873 New Zealand
Cyril Nichols bn 185 New Zealand

then the one that Julie pointed out above that seems to tally

Then in 1920 there is an outward journey to NZ for these 2

Mary Nichols age abt 82 bn Ireland last known address was Ireland
Cyril NIchols age abt 45 bn England single last known address for him was 68 Pall Mall Ln

          ???

              HI John

Is there an address noted on the marriage cert from where Cyril married from. So the sister Catherine visible on the 1911 is a sister to Agnes who is herself now married.

Thanks, address 14 Tidal Basin, Canning Town.
Yes thats correct Sister on 1911.

Cyril listed as SEMAN MERCHANT SERVICE in 1911.
But Ernest seems to have vanished.
