  • Keeper of Wild Beasts ?

was surprised to find Harriett Eliza Ellis's father as a Keeper of wild Beasts ??? this is in 1852 , I wondered what would have been the purpose of them?? would it have been maybe a circus ? http://search.ancestry.co.uk/Browse/...=1730152&email=

More likely a zoo, I would think. (I can't see the link cos I don't subscribe to ancestry any longer).

            Hi Velma
Dont think I would have fancied that job myself ,makes a change to have him rather than a Labourer in the tree though

I think it's an interesting addition...

One of my great great aunts married a son of an attendant at the British Museum (early 1900s), which I think is interesting... :D

Grove Street is now Arlington Street, just a short walk from Regents Park so you've defiinitely got a zoo keeper. They are just round the corner from my Hawes family who kept a grocers - they might have known each other!
