  • Could someone please read one line in an 1851 census in Scotland

    I know his name is Alexander Grieve (think it says lodger) widower 78

    Does it say his occupation is camper formerly weaver - and where was he born?

    I can't copy the 1851 census but he is the last person in No.63. It is the ..... Church, Paisley - looks like Page 16. (The church name is short, looks like Cigh Church - but I dont think that is right.) I can email it if anyone is interested.

        The occupation is Pauper formerly weaver.

        Ancestry has transcribed it as coming from the Paisley High Church parish. I must admit it does rather look like Cigh, but I wonder if we are only see half of a very flowery 'H'

        Place of birth - difficult to read - Ancestry has transcribed it as Port Glasgow.
