  • Ellen Brown late Lower

    Hi all
Does anybody have access to St John's church Lowestoft baptist records please.
Looking for possible marriage of Ellen Lower to Henry/Frederick Brown.
We know they had a daug Kate birth reg 1867 Lowestoft parents Henry & Ellen Brown late Lower.
They also had a daug Emma 1866 & son Frederick 1869 both born Lowestoft, yet no record of their births. At the time of reg. birth of Kate, Ellen states they are residing Denmark Rd,Lowestoft & Henry is a joiner.
Did the three children also get baptised there.
On the marriage certs of Emma & Kate both give fathers name as Frederick Brown a journeyman & the other says he is deceased.
There is nothing found on Freebmd for marriage of this couple or the births of Emma or Frederick.
In 1871 Emma & Frederick are staying at Sarah Prettyman's,she is a nursey school teacher. They are still there in 1881 now as Emma & Frederick Prettyman. Kate is a servant in a shop.
I think the surname Lower could also be spelt as Low or Lowe.
    Many thanks for any help.

I had a quick look, and couldn't spot anything on FreeREG (http://freereg.rootsweb.com/), yet, relevant to your quest - but it does get updated at regular intervals, so it's worth going back (Lowestoft is in the list) - and might be worth offering to transcribe, if you have any number of ancestors in that particular area. Having said that, they're usually more inclined to prioritise pre-1837 records, I think.

The IGI looked hopeful - but no Ellen LOWER / BROWN marriages seem to be there, at all.

If you look on the Record Office Requests board, there is someone who goes to the Suffolk RO from time to time, and is willing to do look-ups with a reasonable amount of info.

Apart from not finding a marriage for the said parents - do you have any BMD info for Ellen and her "hubby"? Have you seen them in a census? Was there a house number on those birth certs for the address of Denmark Rd?

Sorry in late coming back to you. No number for Denmark Rd & they are not there in 1861 or 1871.
So only there for the period 62-70. Have been up/down Denmark Rd 1861 & 71 & they not there.
            Search goes on.
            Many thanks
