I am trying to find the parents of a william, john and grace stacy/stacey they were from poundstock cornwall..I have found a mary stacy with children of those names, same ages but no father. In the 1861 census mary was the head of the family so the father must have died before that.I don't know his name or the mothers maiden name.she was born in nth tamabed in devon

I think I've found the same family on the 1851 census but it's not a lot of help.

Mary is shown as married, pauper (ag lab wife) but there is no husband at home. There is a older daughter, Betsy A, aged 10.

I think you will need to get the birth certificate of one of the children to get the father's name and mother's maiden name.

Just found an interesting marriage on the Family Search pilot site. Mary Langwin married William Stacey on 3/1/1835 in North Tamerton, Cornwall.

There is a birth registration for Grace Langwin Stacey in 1847 Q4 Stratton, Cornwall.

Aha, this could be the reason William is missing on the 1851 census.

From the criminal registers on Ancestry.

              Name: William Wells Stacey
              Age: 36
              Estimated birth year: abt 1812
Date of Trial: 4 Jan 1848
              Trial Year: 1848
              Location of Trial: Cornwall, England
              Sentence: Transportation

That's perhaps quite a late date for transportation, so it's possible the sentence was commuted to something else.
