  • Larkin, Purcell family

Still trying to find more of Abraham Purcell, born chelsea london 1901 census, daughter annie elizabeth married william henry larkin, my ancestors, still a complete blank, any help would be appreciated. Geraldine

This looks like him in 1861 as a groom in Liverpool, place of birth is badly overwritten and it's been transcribed as Chester Germany but it could be Chelsea
    RG9; Piece: 2687; Folio: 86; Page: 3

Do you have the Larkin/Purcell marriage cert or Annie Elizabeth's birth cert?

Have you looked at this family Geraldine?

Marriage of Abraham Purcell Dec 1870 Kensington 1a 345 to Elizabeth Lester.

In 1871 I believe this is them and he is a coachman born Shropshire -

I'm not sure how close to Shropshire this birth might be and I have to get the lunch now - but a possible birth for him ???? Sept 1838 Abraham Purcell - Holywell 27 208.

Hi to marymogg, chrissiesmiff, jill on th A272, for your help re Purcell, I have the marriage certificate for Annie and William.(My Grandfather) 7 May 1900 St Peters Church Parish of fulham. thats how I got her fathers name. 1901 census shows Abraham as being born in Chelsea, and thats all I know. I have seen the one born in shropshire and Chester Germany, but don't know if its my ancestor? Annie was 26 in 1900 when she married, so Marymog has got the right Annie being born in 1873. Can't thank you all enough for your help. Any thing else would also be appreciated. As i can't find any one else doing research on them. Lost contact with all the family Larkin when I move to Australia and My Mother died in 1964 before i started doing the family history. thanks again Geraldine. Nee Larkin

I've just been looking under a magnifying glass at the one Jill found in 1861 that said Germany. It definitely says something then Chester, not Chelsea.
I have just checked on my route finder and Chester and Flint in Flintshire are only 12 miles apart. I feel sure that, whether it's Geraldines Abraham Purcell or not, the Abraham Purcell born Sept 1838 Holywell 27 208, is the same one we keep finding as born in Chester. As they are both Grooms and the ages fit I wouldn't be surprised if Geraldine's Abraham in 1901 is one and the same and the birth place was misunderstood.
Abraham is a widow in 1901 Naomiatt, so I don't think that can be Elizabeths death. Perhaps her death is either the March 1901 in West Ham aged 62 or the June 1891 in Portsea aged 51. Do we know where they were in 1891? I can't remember :o

                  Chrissi

Looking at that one, he is on the Census Wales 1841 in Aston, about a mile from Queensferry, and on the 1861 it says Queensfery. So that is the one from Hawarden,

I have been trying to find Annie and William in 1911 Geraldine. Do you know whether they had children George, Kate, Margaret and Mark?

Do we think that isn't the right one then Mary? Such a coincidence being a groom.

Id be more suspicious that it is the right one, If you write Chester on a Fulham census form(Fulham is just over the water from Chelsea the other side of Chelsea bridge, it would be very likely that the enumerator, not being able to read it clearly, or took anything beginning with Che.... as Chelsea.

hi, thanks for all help on the Purcell family. Now I am stuck on the other side. Henrietta Dennis. my great grandmother, on 1861 and 1881, census married Mark Andrews 1874, can only find her mothers name on 1861, ie sarah and henriettas siblings, trying to find fathers name and if I can get anything further back. She died in 1894 3 days after giving birth to her last child who also died. thanks Geraldine
