  • Births at sea

Just been looking around and have two births at sea. Have tried searching on findmypast but do not have a subscription and am getting nowhere, so wondered if there was any other way off finding out?

Am looking for Charles Burton Dyer and Emily Undine Dyer to tie them in with the announcement in the paper

The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848-1954) Monday 17 July 1865
Dyer-On the 5th April, on board the ship True Briton, on her passage to England, In Lat. 43deg. 25mln. 8., Ion. 37deg.. 7min. W., Mrs. H. Dyer, of St. Kilda, ol twins,-son and daughter.

Their mother has another set of twins registered next in England so am trying to pin them all down as she has 3 sets of twins...15 children in all!

    Many thanks

    Elaine

Is that how the births are registered or do they have to be recorded in the country they land as well?

Was wondering where a birth cert would come from?

If the birth is in one of the GRO Overseas indexes, you can order it from the GRO. The format of the certificate is a bit different.

Thanks Uncle John, sorry I wasn't very clear, I was wondering how the parents register the birth once they are on land and then is it ''filed'' as a birth at sea because presumably once in England they would need some sort of paperwork
            Hope that makes sense
