Peter LAURIE/LAWRIE was the father of Mary and Cathrine. He appears in the 1840 Census, minus his wife Mary McNEIL from Glencairn. Mary, his daughter, appears in a previous census as a servant to a family in Durisdeer, she was abt 13 years of age. She was in her mid thirties when she married Robert McMILLAN. It appears he most needed a baby sitter!! (His first wife died less than one year prior to his marriage to Mary -- he was widowed and had several children). He and Mary married and had Jane Laurie MacMillan DOUGAN in 1876 in Glasgow and later another daughter, who died at a young age. Mary died in 1882.
Robert and Mary were both born in the Sanquhar area.
Mary's sister Cathrine LAURIE (a few years older than Mary) was married to Robert GRIERSON, She died in childbirth,1871, in the Parrish of Langh??? in Ayr. Cathrine's marriage certificate showed her father, Peter, as deceased in 1844.
Trying to find when Peter passed away and where he is buried…there was mention of Dalmakerran…but that’s also a mystery…seems like there could have been two Dalmakerran’s in Dumfries. There was also mention that the LAURIE’s were related to Anna LAURIE..she married in to wealth…Peter was a shepherd and
possibly born near Tynron and the Shinnel Waters in Dumfriesshire.
