  • The American WDYTYA episodes

Has anybody got an idea why I can't view the US series online? I've tried downloading the Sarah Jessica Parker episode in both IE8 and Opera but no joy.

The episode seems to download, the viewing screen opens and enlarges and the NBC logo/theme appears. Then all I can get is a box in the middle of my screen which says "NULL" in the top left hand corner and there's an "OK" button in the middle.

Surely they can't be blocking UK servers from watching? I watched the Australian episodes online with no problems.

Here's the link I used to bring up the episode list. http://www.nbc.com/who-do-you-think-you-are/video

I saw a link to this on the Cyndi's List page on Facebook - when I clicked on it there was a message to say you could only view them if you are in America.

It's probably just down to broadcasting rights - in the same way as I can't watch anything on BBC iPlayer as I'm not in the UK.

I found this in the FAQ on the NBC site: http://www.nbc.com/frequently-asked-...video#video8_3
Can I watch episodes outside the United States?
At this time, full episodes on NBC.com can only be viewed within the United States.

          That's exactly the reason.

i've seen them (my husband obtained them for me from one of his download sites)
basically i thought they were not very good - repeating themselves a lot - could easily fit the hour into a half hour.
The Australian one were very good even though i had no idea who they were!

In my copy of Whats on TV it says "coming soon The American version of Who do you think you are" . This is the UK

So do not panic and be patient.

I read on the WDYTYA forum that the showing of the US progs in the UK had been delayed indefinitely. :(

Really? That is not good news. The series has a planned DVD release in U.K for June, already available for pre order on several big sites. I wonder whether that will still go ahead now.

3 different editions of What's On TV over the last month have said something similar Ken, once they actually had it as "coming next week"

i like the series. lisa kudrow's was a sad one. next week they have brooke shields, whose family were the bankers for the pope in the 19th century i think, also, her grandma was legally entitled to the title princess.

                                  Saw this in WDYTYA magazine

There's disappointing news for British family historians looking forward to seeing the US series of Who Do You Think You Are?.

Despite the show’s Stateside success – the most recent episode, featuring actress Susan Sarandon, was the most-watched programme in its Friday evening timeslot – it has been announced that plans to broadcast the show in the UK have been put on hold.

So although the popularity of the series among American viewers means that it's already been recommissioned for a second series next year, family historians in the UK will have to wait to see if any of the episodes are shown.
