  • ? on Becketts from Newark, Notts, have answer for BRIANT on posting of a year ago.

    Hi,
I am in North Carolina,US. Mom(Annie(nance)Beckett is from Newark,Notts and am having a difficult time trying to locate family, alive and deceased. Am awaiting info from Newark cemetary on birth/death dates of grandparents, John Edward Beckett and Lydia Brown. Does anyone have any suggestions on online sites for that area or places i can write to in Newark. Am new to this whole chat thing and genealogy search and am rather computer illiterate but thought i would be brave and give it a shot.
while searching for Newark came across post( somehow) from BrianT. about Chatham st location in newark.
Mom has a 1938 st and neighborhood directory which lists all streets and yards at that time and persons that lived there. also includes merchants.directory also includes balderton, coddington farndon, hawton kelham etc
    For Brian
It states:Chatham st. from 37 Albert st.(no Thoroughfare)NE side. lists all people living there in 1938. It jumps from 11-13 because where 12 should be it says "here is Priest's yard". hope that helps.
If anyone else needs info from this directory on Newark and surrounds I will be happy to see if it is in there.
please bear with me as i haven't got the hang of this site yet.
    Thanks, catwomen

FreeBMD has a marriage for John Edward Beckett & Lydia Brown. March Qtr, 1910 Newark, Notts (Ref: 7b 810)

If you haven't already got this certificate, it would be a good idea to get it, as this will give birth dates and father's names and occupations. This will help with your research.

I've had a look on my Nottingham BMD CDs but couldn't find anything for John Edward Beckett. If you get more details later, I may be able to help.

. Beckitt-had no idea the spelling was changed. I think this whole genealogy thing could be addictive. Can't thank you enough.

I think his parents may be Frederick & Eliza.

Wendy, how wonderful of you to offer. No i don't subscribe yet to ancestry. Is that ancestry.com? Anyway, would be thrilled to see the image.
I have learned more in one hour from you and Mike Fisher than hours on the internet. what a lucky accident that i came across this site. I know one of my moms brothers and one of her uncles was named Frederick so i bet Frederick and Eliza are my great grandparents. I am so excited i can't stand it!!!!!
