  • John Gray, Grey Hawkkhurst to Ontario Canada

Searching for a John Grey b. c1828 Hawkhurst,Kent parents John Gray & Sarah Relf, John's and his brother William had a double wedding 3/5/1858 at Trinity church Parish of St Mary's Newington, Surrey - John married Elizabeth Stevens her father William Stevens and William married Celia Eastwood, her father Henry Eastwood from Sussex. William & Celia migrated to Australia arriving Jan 1859 and John to Canada, John had no contact with William in Australia until a letter arrived from Canada addressed to W Gray c/o Goldfields Australia which eventually found Williams son William in Tarnagulla,Victoria,Aust, about 1904, his brother had died 1901, John had apparently remarried a widow and had a number of shops. have no other info on his time in Canada, so hoping to find someone descended from John.

Did the letter have an address for John - in which case we might be able to find him in the Canadian census.

          Hello Elaine,
It did, and they replied, but heard nothing more, I do not have the letter, only the iformation re the receipt of the letter. I have looked at Canadian census and found a couple of possible candidates but am none the wiser, the family name was generally spelt Gray but on his marriage to Elizabeth it was written with an "e". Thank you for your reply.
          regards
          Ken
