Is it possible to find information about an ancestor who was in the Masons. I have no idea about which lodge just a location.

There are links to sites about Freemasons on our General Historical Resources page in the Reference Library which may be useful.

The Freemasons Library & Museum looks the most useful!!

It's the third on on the list .... The Freemasons Library & Museum

The Sheffield site is working - you need to click on Resources.

I think it was that Masonic site I looked at when searching for info on Masons & I was surprised at the list of members it had, which went back to the 1940's (I think)

          We should never forget them,
Because we would not be here today, but for them.
We should be proud, reflect, respect and always remember them.
          Because we all have them…
          Them… were our Ancestors.

Looks like the site is back up and running now. IF you are struggling to find something I suggest you email them. They do have some records dating back to the early 1800's

You could try one of the Masonic forums. They would probably be willing to tell you which Lodges to contact.

Google 'masonic forum' or 'freemason forum'
