  • Can someone please tell me what this says.

    John Smithson

Pages 38 and 39......last one on the page.

Particular interest to me is the native place which is the column after sentence (his is life)

    Thanks Ruth

No idea at all.....I only just found out last night that he appears to have married my gX3 grandmother when she came out to Tasmania as a convict.

the thought of her marrying never crossed my mind as she was about 56 when she was sent out.......but her marriage to John Smithson may exzplain why I have never found where she was buried.

Mind you I haven't been able to find either of the 2 possible John Smithson burials yet either.

There is a Great Coates, near Grimsby.

              The bottom word is confusing!

Yes ,Karen is right, there is a Great Coates which is part of Grimsby in Lincolnshire.
On closer inspection i think the bottom word is definately Lincolnshire.

                    I see Great Coa---, Lincoln---
So Great Coates Linconshire seems quite likely to me.

I just had a quick look on Freereg and theer certainly were Smithson's in Great Coates Grimsby LIncolnshire in the early 1800's....and he was born in 1787...... so I would say we have solved the problem of where he came from.

                        Thank you.....Ruth
