This is for an ancestor of my sister in law. Its for a Zebulon Maplesdon, who it says had the death sentence in Sussex in December 1824. Was he executed then and was this converted to transportation. What did he do to get a death sentence? Unfortunately, I am near but so far, as I can't read the criminal registers with my membership of Ancestry MTIA.

Can anyone tell me what he was executed for and when?

If you google "Zebulon Maplesdon" the first result is a CD of horse stealers, 1823 - 1825. There's also the will of Samuel Maplesden dated 1836 on Sussex OPC, which refers to "my deceased son Zebulon"
