  • Looking for the STANTON's

Here are the Stanton family in 1871

Begin your discovery today by exploring the world's largest online family history resource!

All the children are recorded as born in Cheltenham.

I have been able to find the birth entry for Clara and it shows mother as Martha Stanton 'Jenkins'

However, I can not find birth entires for the other children, nor can I find a marriage for a Henry Stanton to a Marth Jenkins.

Nor can I find a 61 census record for them.

Martha died in 75 and by thr 81 census the children are not with there father.

    See;

Can anyone see them in 61 or any fo the birth entires or even a marriage.

    Its all very odd

    thanks for looking.

On the 1861 census at the same address as the 1871, 3 Exmouth St. There is the Brotheridge family Martha (Jenkins) and Henry Brotheridge who married 1851 in Cheltenham.

They have Emma 1855 and Henry 1860.

I cannot find this family after 1861.

I've had a look for Emma Stanton (1858) born Cheltenham but can't find anything on free BMD yet. I have found Henry Stanton reg Dec 1857 6a 329, Cheltenham.

Found death for Martha Stanton Dec 1875 aged 44, cheltenham 6a 322.

I am wondering if they were using both names - there was a Henry Brotherton as well as Henry Stanton reg. in Cheltenham 3 months apart in registration.

Your right it is strange. No death for Brotherton 1861-1901

Thats great thank you for your help - much appreciated.

So is Henry Brotheridge in 61c the same as Henry Stanton in the 71c - same age, same job, same address, no marriage for a henry staton to a Maria, and no death for henry brotheriide post 1861 - the only difference is his place of birth.

Does make you wonder if they changed names - I wonder why.

I can't see 'there was a Henry Brotherton as well as Henry Stanton reg. in Cheltenham 3 months apart in registration.' - what date was this? thanks.
