  • can you help with a year?

    hi,

sorry about the poor quality my scanner is doing what it pleases. has anyone got any idea of what year this photo may have been taken? all i know is that on the back it says "lackey family west rainton, not sure of year".

it looks like a christening picture. i know when i would like it to be before as that means 2 can name some of the people in it, and i will be 1 happy bunny!

I would say 1940s judging from the ladies hairstyles, possibly post-WW2.

I was thinking possibly late 1930s... but the fashions are far too 'modern' for 1920.

there were only 3 lackey's born in the 1940's - 2 in newcastle (didnt have anything to do with west rainton due to family argument in the late 20's early 30's) and my dad born peterborough! and as far as i am aware was christened here as well BUT i maybe wrong on this.

how old would you say the female with bow in hair is? i reckon about 15 BUT this doesnt fit with any births!!!

I agree with the date - definitely 1940s or even just into the early 1950s. Just after the war. And I would put the girl with the bow's age at about 12 to 13.

Amy, she may not even be related, maybe just a family friend?

I have that in a photo taken in the 1930s... turned out that it was the granddaughter of a former workmate of my great grandfather's, whose father was my great grandmother's executor. I've been in contact with the girl's daughter through GR, who told me that it was indeed her mother.

Agree with the dates. 20s would be ladies with londresses and very short, straight hair. Not like this. 1930s-40s-50s depends... I have my grandfather in the late 40s with such a suit as the one worn by the chap on the far right, but it could also be a little later.

thank you. it really is a puzzle - there were 3 lackeys born in the 40's of which 2 definately didnt have anything to do with the family at west rainton and i didnt think my dad had as he was in peterborough. there were 2 in the early 1950's but the family had moved to surrey by that point.

SO i am now wondering IF 1 of the females (older) WAS a lackey who married mr ........ and its 1 of their christenings not the christening of a "lackey child", therefore the 10/11/12/13 yr old with bow in hair could be a sibling of baby. they are still part of the lackey family but not lackey by name!
