  • Please could someone remind me how...

to search for a place (village) on the census' rather than by name of person. The reason being I have a family whom I can't find on the 1891 and 1901 by name and D.O.B and am desperate to find them.

    Many Thanks

    Hi Tessie
You could try just putting the name of the village in the Keyword search box at the bottom of the form.

If all else fails why not post their details and lets see if someone else can find your people for you.

Fill in county, then town/village boxes only.

For 1841, best to use the individual 1841 form, otherwise I just click all.

I do this a lot in villages, to get round mistranscriptions, LOL

You can also Browse the census. This option used to appear below the search form on Ancestry, but now it appears to the right of the search form when searching the individual census years. You select the country, then the civil parish, and then click on an enumeration district to browse the images.
There's also an option to view the description of the enumeration district.
