  • Is he their adopted Son ?

Sidney Harrison aged 1, am I reading it right ??? he is the adopted Son of James and Caroline Attwood ???
If so where would the Birth be registered as Forest Hill as far as I know isn't in Kent?? and I cannot find a Birth for 1870 for a Sidney Harrison .
    Thanks

It certainly says "an adopted son".

This is the only likely birth I can see on FreeBMD:

    Births Sep 1870
HARRISON Sydney Spencer Lewisham 1d 806

Lewisham is in Kent, and Forest Hill's nearby.

Official adoption didn't begin until 1927. And they may have kept his original surname because he was the child of a family member.

pre 1927 , all 'adopted child' meant was ''a child were have taken in and regard as our own''.

The early adoption acts, were what started record keeping of who went where
