This is probably the thread you mean:

Questions, answers and general information about your family history research.

yes that was the site I couldn't remember and the family I'm looking for were in Victoria. They emigrated with 3 of their children in 1930 when the parents were 60 years old !!I'm not sure if I'll find anything but thought I'd have a look.

        Aso thanks Mary
That thread sould be useful too as the poster was also asking for help with Australian research.I do have worldwide ancestry sub but I don't seem to get many australian archives to go at on there.

Hi Liz - there are quite a few sites for Victoria e.g http://necropolis.net.au/necropolis/
          http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/ http://gazette.slv.vic.gov.au/ etc etc
If you're able to give the parent's names, perhaps we can find something...

              Hi Naomi
the parents were Henry Albert and Mary Ann Deakin. They emigrated in 1930 when Mary Ann was about 60 years old.In some family papers I found a cut out newspaper article of 1952 which was a report of the celebration of their diamond wedding in Carrum where they lived. I was hoping I might be able to find their death dates and even where they were buried but not sure how to do that??

The Australia page has been published in its new home this afternoon.

You can find it in the World Index in the Reference Library menu, or go direct to Australia

For Melbourne BMD there is one that fits for Henry's name and two poss's for Mary Ann (you probably have more info to precis it down) - there is a charge of $0.99 cents to view...http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/CA2...l+indexes~&3=~
Do you think they were still in Carrum when they passed away?

They died after 1954 - both Henry Albert and Mary Ann Deakin are listed in the Australian Electoral Rolls on ancestry.com.au as living at 479 Station St, Carrum, he was a retired railway clerk.

In 1931, also living at Station St Carrum (meaning they were over 21) was Frederick Sydney Deakin, accountant and Florence Sarah Deakin, home duties.

                              Hello Di
thanks for that yes Frederick Sydney is their son and I assume Florence the wife. However I wonder who Patricia is who Naomi said was with him---I wonder if it was a child? I'll check my file as I seem to remember one of Henry and Mary Anne's children had a child who died aged one so maybe it's that one?

                              Thanks for that Naomi
yes that is the cremation of their son Frederick so now I need to find Patricia!

That is a really good search site, thanks for putting me onto it

In 1936 Electoral Roll, Frederick Sydney Deakin and Florence Sarah Deakin were at 26 Howe St Oakleigh, Melbourne. Both were clerks. In 1954 Frederick and Florence are living at separate addresses.

You could try the Funeral Director's to see if they have some info -
RUSSELL BROTHERS F/S PTY LTD - you can also e mail Springvale for info if you click on the request more info bit from their detais - they might be able to tell you next of kin, who arranged the burial etc.

Thanks Naomi I'll do that. Yes I assume Patricia was a second wife, will have another look at husband's grandma's papers to see if she's mentioned.Patricia would have been 12 years younger than Fred but I suppose that's not so unusual !

                                    Thanks again for your help

I had a look on the National Library of Australia newspaper archives site, and found this, which may have some connection?

PS - I notice that there are a number of DEAKINs in the area, so it's entirely possible that this is a red herring!

                                        Hello Christine
you are a star, you have found the marriage of one of Henry and Mary Ann's grandchildren. My husband's grandmother's papers contained a scrap of paper with just an address in Oz for a Barry Brain and no one had any idea who this was !! I presume then this is one of Irene and WV Brain's sons. I'll take a look at the Deakin entries for that area. The original Deakin emigres from England in 1930 settled at Carrum.

                                        Thanks again
