  • what year would you think?

    hi,

just got the 1911 census for 2nd great gran. it says she had 12 kids i only have 11.

    the years of births are: 1862, 1864, 1864? (a contact has him as a twin but i cant find any records), 1866, 1867, 1870, 1873, 1874, 1876, 1877, 1880.

what year would you think the missing child was born?

this isnt going to be easy as they went by 2 surnames - her husbands surname and his middle name (they changed it as they pleased on each census!)

1868/9? This is a major problem with the 1911 results as I now have a number of complete families that I know find incomplete.
With common surnames you just can't find them in GRO indexes and you don't know when to kill them off

I'm always surprised how often the first child died. Was there 'time for a first child either before the wedding or just after?

The problem is that means that if you apply for 4 to the GRO stating that you want the certificate only if the mother is the name you state , you only get partial refunds on your £28. If you apply to the local register including the mother's details if non correct you get all your £28 back

the last time i rang local office with a query they were really helpful couldnt give me info off the cert as such. i asked them if the mother was ....... (had 2 possibles 1 quarter apart) and i got no for the 1st and yes for 2nd. so i ordered it.

there is the option of the baptism records on ancestry as they list parents BUT this will only work IF they were baptised b4 they died, and if i can get some1 to search as my sub on ancestry is only basic.
