  • How can I find where someone is buried?

My great grandmother died in Oxford in 1941. How would I go about finding where, or even if she was buried? Does the NBI go as far as the 1940's? Is there a database for cremations? I looked on the Oxfordshire Cemetery sites but they don't give much information.

do you have your grans death cert Linda? or know where she died, then i'd work outwards from the place of death or from the house where she lived, and contact the councils/crematoria where concerned, (I dont thinkt that the NBI goes up that far to be honest) at least I havent notcied any 'recent' ones on mine.

I have often rung the council concerned and they are quite helpful.

Thank you both for your help - I don't have her death certificate yet, but will send off for it. I would be interested to know what she died from - I have a vague recollection of a story of her having a bad fall and breaking a leg. I'm hoping that if I can track it down, I could go and "visit" her as Oxford isn't too far from me.
