  • What's a Pa?

[COLOR="rgb(0, 100, 0)"]on US censuses there is a column Whether naturalised or alien - on a lot of these Pa has been entered. Maybe I'm having a silly moment but all I can think of is Part Alien and that can't be right........

    What does Pa stand for?

Pending application? Petition awaits? To obtain naturalisation you had to make a Petition for Naturalization. I wonder it's to do with this.

Which State does it relate to? Maybe it means born in Pennsylvania?

If you can read them, I think you'll find there are explanations actually on the census sheet for all the abbreviations... It's just a question of spotting them!
